Jay’e R. began singing at age 6 in his hometown of Ivanhoe NC. His mother played an intricate part in his love of music, as she introduced him to different genres. Growing up, Whitney Houston strongly influenced Jay’e R., and inspired him to become a singer. He began singing in school talent shows, winning nearly every show that he entered, and in chorus while in middle school. As a singer today, he has been compared to the likes of R&B singers Eddie Kendricks, Maxwell, Philip Bailey, and Eric Benet.

As time went on, Jay’e R. stopped singing to pursue his love of art and design. When Jay’e R. was 23, he connected with Terrance Downs. Downs is an Independent singer and songwriter who inspired him to get into songwriting. In 2010 after relocating to Charlotte, NC, the fire to sing returned to Jay’e R. and he begin posting videos of himself singing on YouTube. Continuing to grow in his craft of writing music, he began writing Gospel music. In 2013, Jay’e R. connected with his good friend and producer Benie Encarnacion of Benie Beatz Productions where he wrote his first R&B/Soul single. He released the single in the spring of 2013 to ReverbNation. The single brought Jay’e R. to the Charlotte R&B/Soul scene as a fresh new voice. Throughout 2013, Jay’e R. wrote and recorded many songs to build his repertoire and music catalog. Within this time, he connected with many different producers and there was one that helped him to write the song that opened many doors. Jay’e R. met Atlanta producer Keith Heard and the two created Jay’e R.’s first hit single, “Tonight’s Your Night”. He released it in October 2013 and it became an instant hit on ReverbNation’s R&B/Soul charts. The song was released on iTunes that same month, and charted at #26 on the New Release Top 100 R&B/Soul charts, peaking at #25. In January 2014, the song hit the Independent R&B charts of NC and climbed quickly to #1 and became the first song for Jay’e R. to gain radio exposure in London, England. In February 2014, Jay’e R. released his second song to iTunes, “I’ve Found Love”. This song was another song written by Jay’e R. and produced by Keith Heard. Throughout 2014, Jay’e R. wrote, recorded, and released a few more singles in which four went to #1 on both the R&B and Pop charts, giving the singer a total of five #1 songs on the NC Independent R&B and Pop charts. In the summer of 2014, Jay’e R. signed with Independent record label Tate Music Group. For the remainder of the year, he worked on writing and finding the right producers to help make the right sound for his debut album. Jay’e R. decided that he wanted to be a R&B/Pop crossover artist like his influence, Whitney Houston.

In January 2016, Jay’e R. recorded his debut album with Tate Music Group. His album, “Like I Love You” was released on June 7, 2016 in the United States by Tate Music Group and worldwide on June 17, 2016. Upon its release in the United States, the album debuted at #1 on iTunes New Release Top 100 Albums and iTunes New Release Top 100 Pop charts. When released worldwide, it landed at #33 on the Top 100. A week after its release worldwide, “Like I Love You” had a #1 hit single and within three months, Jay’e R. had a total of five consecutive #1 singles from his album giving him ten #1 songs overall in his career. In October 2016, his fourth #1 single “Touch U”, was nominated for Best R&B song at the 2016 XMA Music Awards, and in December Jay’e R. received the New Artist of the Year nomination at the Queen City Awards in Charlotte NC. In January 2017, Jay’e R. was named the #1 Pop artist in Charlotte NC and ranked as the #1 Pop artist in NC. That same month, his smash hit “I Never Thought” won the 2017 XMA Music Award for Best Pop Song and his album “Like I Love You” won the award for Best Pop Album. In March 2017, Jay’e R. became the first artist in Charlotte Pop music to spend over one year at #1 on the charts.

In four years, Jay’e R. has shown that hard work does pay off and success isn’t easy, but with his faith in God and himself, he has shown his true determination and passion for music.
